von Stiehl Winery

The road less traveled leads to the von Stiehl Winery in Algoma. This, the oldest licensed Wisconsin winery, was founded by Dr. Charles Stiehl when he created the idea of Door County Montmorency Cherry wine in 1967. Now specializing in many grape varieties, the third generation, family-owned business carries on the former Doctor's traditions and dreams.

Sep 11 2015 - 4:00pm - Sep 12 2015 - 6:00pm: Wet Whistle Wine Fest! 14th Annual

Grape Stomp, Wine Tasting, Specialty Foods, & Fine Art Fair

You’ll have to see it to believe it! There’s something that happens one weekend a year in Algoma that defies explanation. It’s not the two thousand visitors all smiling at the same time. It’s not the trombonist standing in a barrel on the grape stomp rack sliding through a riff, or the dirty grape-soaked sticky purple feet on the person who’s dancing across the stage in front of the band. Those are normal and to be expected. What usually throws people are all of the costumes. We don’t ask for or even suggest that anyone come dressed up like giant wine bottles, or that groups show up in shirts specially made for the weekend. We certainly don’t expect to see any nuns smoking cigarettes and drinking Naughty Girl wine.

In fact, there are things that go on at this festival that we just couldn’t make up. They happen this way with no coercion. As the saying goes, don’t take our word for it… come see it for yourself!
